Who we are?
Air Rescue UK Ltd was initially formed in 2014 as an off-shoot of Air Rescue Systems, to support AAR Airlift with the bid for the UK MoD Search & Rescue Contract in the Falkland Islands.
That Contract has been live for 3 years with Air Rescue UK delivering 100% against KPI's for Operational Support with trained and qualified SAR Technical Crew, Hoist Operators and Winchmen/Rescue Swimmers.
In late 2018 Air Rescue UK Ltd went into private ownership and ceased to be a part of Air Rescue Systems, the MoD Falklands Contract remained with Air Rescue UK Ltd.
We continue to work on growth in Helicopter Hoist & Rescue Operations and Training by exceeding our partners and customers needs, especially within the regulatory frameworks of EASA and for Search and Rescue National regulatory bodies like the UK CAA and also by meeting the needs of industry regulation such as the IOGP.
Our mission!
Air Rescue UK's Mission is to be the number one support for Helicopter Operators in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and further afield, who need to provide Hoist Operations for Search & Rescue, HEMS, Law Enforcement & Commercial Air Transport.
Delivery
We will deliver our mission for partners and customers through Support for Hoist Operation Delivery; through Training Delivery; through Standardisation; and through Consultancy Projects.
How we do it!
We want to create relationships and partnerships beyond a pure transactional, one off service.
We do not have 'off the shelf' solutions for operations or training because no 2 operations have the same requirements and no 2 Operators have the exact same training needs.
We work with Operators to provide the solution that meets their needs and requirements as an Operator.
Our partners have to meet not only their own but also regulatory requirements and have to show that they continue to meet those requirements to a safe and competent standard.
Our depth of experience in Helicopter Hoist Operations and a solid understanding of Regulatory Frameworks allows us to develop 'tailor made' solutions to create long-term partnerships and relationships.
Results Example - SAR Delivery
Air Rescue UK's first foray came when we became involved in the contract for SAR in the Falkland Islands for the UK MoD. Working with partners we supported changing the final bid submission to reflect the aspirations of the customer with the result that the Prime Contract was won by AAR.
From contract award to 'stand up' there was a short period of 14 months during which time the specification for 2, new to market and role, helicopters had to be completed and the aircraft built; Ops Manuals had to be written and approved by the UK CAA; A Type Specific Training course had to be developed and delivered; Pilots and SAR TC recruited; The Aircraft had to be delivered to the Falkland Islands and local familiarisation training conducted; all before a final customer audit and acceptance and final Stand Up.
Working with the Operator for this new service British International Helicopters, who had no previous SAR experience, Air Rescue UK took the lead in most parts of approvals, course design and delivery and meeting customer audit and acceptance.
Most notable is that from final aircraft delivery to BIH in December 2015 all crews were trained and equipped, aircraft delivered to the Falkland Islands and the service 'stood up' after final customer acceptance on the 31 March 2016
Results Example - HEMS HHO Training
An Italian HEMS Operator had a requirement to standardise HHO training across all their existing Pilots and HHO's. After buying an 'off the shelf' course from another provider Air Rescue UK Ltd were approached to develop and deliver HHO training for Pilots & Hoist Operators that met the regulatory requirements of EASA and improved the service provided by this Operator at 2 HEMS Rescue bases.
Air Rescue UK are proud to be working long term with this operator to train, improve and provide standardisation for the company, this has been achieved by successfully including 2 of our Instructors within the Ops & Training Manuals of the Operator.
We are proud of our partnership with Alidaunia and are humbled that our support is helping their business grow.
Results Example - Operator CRM/Human Factors Training
We were approached by an Operator to assist with their future CRM Training across 2 bases and 3 aircraft types. The Operator had recently lost its 2 internal CRMT(G)'s through resignation and had struggled to internally recruit replacements. Outside of the regulatory requirements the Operator wanted the provision of CRM Training to not only be cost efficient but also flexible enough to manage 2/3 of the aircrew who are on rotational shift patterns outside of the UK.
Air Rescue UK Ltd was quickly able to put together a plan for future CRM/Human factors training with the Operators Head of Training which provided a base line cost for CRM Management and a given number of courses through each year. If the Operator is not able to manage staff through their mandatory CRM training within those courses (which are flexible in their delivery dates) additional courses can be rostered at a fixed fee per training day.
Within our company we already had 1 qualified CRMT(G) allowing us to start the training program very quickly; in addition we funded an additional staff member through a CRMT(G) instructor course with Global Air Training to increase our ability to deliver against customers needs. As the CRM Training develops we will add an additional Trainer to improve our training resilience.
CRMT(G) training with this Operator started in late November 2019 and 3 CRM Training days were delivered before the Christmas break.
Results Example - Wind Farm HHO Resilience
A Helicopter Operator in the Offshore Renewable Energy market identified that they had very limited resilience in their HHO staffing.
Air Rescue UK Ltd made 2 of our staff available to the Operator on an adhoc basis on the understanding that the Operator maintained the Type currency of those staff whether they were needed for resilience cover or not.
In the 12 Months to Feb 2020 we will have completed some 28 Wind Farm HHO shifts for the customer, some planned and some at short notice saving the customer many 10's of thousands in penalties for non availability of service.
